About This Tea

Second Flush is the summer harvest of Darjeeling loose leaf tea, picked in June and July from GI certified estates at 600 to 2,000 metres, and for most drinkers it is the most complete expression of Indian black tea. The leaves mature under the summer sun and develop a deeper character than the spring picking: rich, full bodied, with the muscatel note of ripe stone fruit and a long smooth finish.

The term 'muscatel' is unique to Darjeeling Second Flush and is caused by the feeding activity of a small leafhopper insect during summer. This stress response triggers the production of specific terpene compounds in the leaf that create the signature grape-like aroma, the very quality that makes Second Flush Darjeeling irreplaceable and impossible to replicate in any other tea-growing region on earth.

Often called the "Champagne of teas", Darjeeling Second Flush holds a GI tag from the Government of India. At Brew Your Sip, we source directly from authenticated Darjeeling estates and seal the leaves in resealable pouches immediately after arrival to lock in that distinctive muscatel aroma.

Best enjoyed without milk as a pure black tea, though a small splash can be added for a softer, creamier finish.

How to Brew: Use 1 tsp (2.5g) per 200ml at 90 to 95°C. Steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Serve black. Can be enjoyed with a small dash of milk.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the muscatel flavour in Second Flush?
Muscatel is a distinctive grape-like, wine-like aroma unique to Darjeeling Second Flush teas. It is caused by leafhopper insect activity on the leaves that triggers the production of specific aromatic compounds during summer.
Can I brew Second Flush with milk?
You can add a small splash, but milk significantly masks the muscatel character. True tea lovers enjoy Second Flush black, to appreciate its full complexity.
How does Second Flush compare to First Flush?
First Flush is light, floral, and delicate. Second Flush is darker, fuller, and richer with the characteristic muscatel depth. Most connoisseurs prefer Second Flush for its complexity.
Is this a GI-tagged product?
Yes. Our Second Flush Darjeeling carries an authentic GI tag, guaranteeing it is sourced from the designated Darjeeling tea-growing region in West Bengal.
What is the ideal water temperature?
90 to 95°C, just below boiling. Boiling water can damage the delicate muscatel notes. Let boiled water cool for 30 seconds before brewing.
